What is Peripheral Ultrasound?

Peripheral ultrasound is a state-of-the-art imaging technology that has revolutionized the medical industry. With its advanced capabilities and accuracy, peripheral ultrasound has become an indispensable part of cardiac care.

It can be used to identify any abnormalities in the heart, such as an enlargement of the chamber, an irregular heartbeat, or signs of a heart attack. It is also used to check for blockages in the coronary arteries and diagnose valve problems.

At the Cardiology Center of Acadiana, expect your peripheral ultrasound experience to be quick, comfortable, and reliable. Our dedicated cardiology team utilizes the latest, cutting-edge ultrasound technology to deliver detailed images of your heart, allowing us to create a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. You will receive a thorough explanation of the procedure prior to the examination, and you can expect clear, concise communication throughout.

Important Information to Know About Peripheral Ultrasound

Here is some important information about peripheral ultrasound:

Before the Procedure

Avoid wearing jewelry or other metal objects that could interfere with the sound waves. You may also be asked to remove your clothing and wear a hospital gown. However, it’s still best to wear loose and comfortable clothing with short sleeves in case you won’t be asked to change.

During the Procedure

You will be situated on an exam table or chair. The ultrasound transducer will be passed over the skin above your chest and abdomen to capture images of your heart. The sound waves will create images on a monitor that your healthcare provider can view and use to diagnose any abnormalities.

After the Procedure

You can return to your normal activities right away and no special care is usually needed. Make sure to follow any instructions or recommendations provided by your healthcare provider regarding follow-up appointments, medications, or lifestyle changes.
